We consider an abstract linear integrodifferential hyperbolic problem, with an unknown scalar convolution kernel. We reconstruct solution and kernel employing the knowledge of a certain expression, depending on the solution and the kernel. The abstract results are applied to some concrete hyperbolic systems.
