In approaching the history of Cesare Pavese’s relationship with Greek language and culture, the contribution focuses on the private translations he carried out during his confinement in Brancaleone calabro (1835-1836). This period marks a turning point in his learning of Greek, which will also influence his subsequent creative production. The author’s very particular translation choices are analysed in the contribution, starting with the translation of Sophoclean Philoctetes (vv. 1-169), whose critical edition and commentary is provided.

Abstract
In approaching the history of Cesare Pavese’s relationship with Greek language and culture, the contribution focuses on the private translations he carried out during his confinement in Brancaleone calabro (1835-1836). This period marks a turning point in his learning of Greek, which will also influence his subsequent creative production. The author’s very particular translation choices are analysed in the contribution, starting with the translation of Sophoclean Philoctetes (vv. 1-169), whose critical edition and commentary is provided.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
