The 70th anniversary from the start of television broadcasting in Italy confronts us with how the history of the medium has been told, and how historiography and media studies can interact further. A posture of production studies can be intensified, allowing us to hold together the analysis of texts and contexts, micro and marco dimensions. The proposal of this essay, supported by a review of the available sources and of the literature on the subject, is that of a cultural history of television production: still not widespread in Italy, it can be enhanced thanks to the interaction between the fields of cultural history and that of cultural studies of media industries.

Abstract
The 70th anniversary from the start of television broadcasting in Italy confronts us with how the history of the medium has been told, and how historiography and media studies can interact further. A posture of production studies can be intensified, allowing us to hold together the analysis of texts and contexts, micro and marco dimensions. The proposal of this essay, supported by a review of the available sources and of the literature on the subject, is that of a cultural history of television production: still not widespread in Italy, it can be enhanced thanks to the interaction between the fields of cultural history and that of cultural studies of media industries.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
