Procedural skill training is a fundamental part of the development of any robotic curriculum. The implementation of the proficiency-based progression (PBP) training model can provide an objective and effective tool to both developing skills and evaluate the performance of trainees. Accurate monitoring of the progression and skill acquisition of novice surgeons is mandatory to guarantee patients safety during the progression along the learning curve. Small steps have been taken to develop structured and validate training programs, however, PBP based curricula in robotic surgery are still lacking.

Abstract

Procedural skill training is a fundamental part of the development of any robotic curriculum. The implementation of the proficiency-based progression (PBP) training model can provide an objective and effective tool to both developing skills and evaluate the performance of trainees. Accurate monitoring of the progression and skill acquisition of novice surgeons is mandatory to guarantee patients safety during the progression along the learning curve. Small steps have been taken to develop structured and validate training programs, however, PBP based curricula in robotic surgery are still lacking.
