Abstract
In the Ossetian lexicon there are various elements of Kabardian origin. In addition to the proximity of the two peoples and the centuries-long contacts, the presence of Kabardian words in Ossetian must also be understood in the context of the power relations between these peoples during the period following the Mongol conquest of the Caucasus, a time when the roles were reversed. In the centuries preceding the Mongol arrival, Alanic generally words passed into the surrounding languages. However, after the 13th century, with the progressive establishment of the Kabardian cultural model, words from this language began to enter into Ossetian and other languages of the region.
