Starting from four letters by Roberto Rossellini, published in «Paese Sera» on 7, 10, 11 and 14 December 1957, addressed to Miss Talyrkhan and announced on the front page as Rossellini's correspondence from India, this essay focusses on the Indian experience of the Italian director. Namely, it focusses on the impression that Rossellini receives from the subcontinent, which appears to him as the country of realism par excellence, where it is still possible to “do neorealism”. Thus, a country where he can finally shoot hundreds of meters of film, for the large screen and for television.
