The paper illustrates the methodological aspects of a research aimed at investigating the influence of the urban growth on the agricultural farms in the peri-urban areas. Starting from the results of a previous research carried out in 1986 through a survey on 208 farms in the surroundings of the town of Parma the problems of updating the same survey in the actual modified context, both in the agricultural and in the land use policies, are pointed out and the expected results outlined.
