As with many other Latin American writers, cinema had considerable importance in Luis Sepúlveda’s cultural formation of. However, his experiences as a filmmaker are limited to three films only: the screenplay of Tierra del fuego by Miguel Littín, the direction of Nowhere and the documentary Corazón verde. Other projects have been announced but never completed. This article aims to examine the role that cinema plays in the work of this writer and to analyze his three films, investigating their intertextual relationships with the Chilean writer’s literary production. In the last section, the article questions the reasons why, despite his interest in cinema and the desire to actively engage in this field, Sepúlveda’s cinematographic experience of has been limited to a handful of scarcely successful titles.
