The traces of a practice of autography in Pier Damiani can be detected mainly through his rich epistolary. The essay demonstrates that the Ravenna hermit attempted to present himself as an autonomous writer, while his methods of composition were still entirely traditional and tied to an office with secretaries who assisted him in every phase of writing: from dictation to editing, up to correction and transcription of the texts into books. Therefore, the only autographic traces of Pier Damiani can be found in the subscription to four documents (public and semi-public), of which critical editions are provided for the first time.

Abstract
The traces of a practice of autography in Pier Damiani can be detected mainly through his rich epistolary. The essay demonstrates that the Ravenna hermit attempted to present himself as an autonomous writer, while his methods of composition were still entirely traditional and tied to an office with secretaries who assisted him in every phase of writing: from dictation to editing, up to correction and transcription of the texts into books. Therefore, the only autographic traces of Pier Damiani can be found in the subscription to four documents (public and semi-public), of which critical editions are provided for the first time.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
