The lead seal of the Byzantine emperor Theodore I Laskaris (1205/8- 1222) has recently been identified among a group of medieval and modern seals preserved in the National Museum of Ravenna. This paper presents this specimen with a prosopographical analysis and a first reconstruction of the origin of the Ravenna sphragistic collection in the context of the erudite collecting culture of the Camaldolese monks of the monastery of Classe in the eighteenth century.
