Ranganathan e le associazioni professionali internazionali

This paper aims to analyse Ranganathan’s involvement in international professional associations; specifically, it will look at his contributions within IFLA and the Indian scholar’s activity within FID (Fédération Internationale d’Information et de Documentation). Although Ranganathan’s involvement in IFLA initiatives is mainly related to cataloguing issues, there is no lack of more general reflections on the role the international association should play and its positioning in relation to ‘non-Western’ countries. His participation in FID, on the other hand, is characterised by his active involvement in the creation of FID/CA, FID Committee on Classification Theory.

L’intervento intende analizzare il coinvolgimento di Ranganathan nelle associazioni professionali internazionali; nello specifico si analizzeranno i contributi in ambito IFLA e l’attività dello studioso indiano in seno alla FID (Fédération Internationale d’Information et de Documentation). Sebbene il coinvolgimento di Ranganathan in iniziative IFLA sia soprattutto legato a questioni catalografiche, non mancano riflessioni più generali sul ruolo che l’associazione internazionale dovrebbe avere e sul suo posizionamento rispetto ai paesi “non occidentali”. La partecipazione alla FID invece si caratterizza per la sua partecipazione attiva nella creazione del FID/CA, il comitato della FID sulla teoria della classificazione
