The publication of the first volume of the Sapientiale (Liber III. Cap. 1-20) is an excellent news for studies on history of medieval philosophy. In his Die Metaphysik des Thomas von York (1913) Martin Grabmann considered this “summa” of the Franciscan theologian Thomas Eborancensis as “the only major presentation of the metaphysical system from the early Scholasticism”. However, the critical edition of the work was expected by the scientific community for more than a century. Publishing affairs spanned the entire 20th century, involving many prominent scholars and prestigious research centers (pp. V-VII). Fiorella Retucci and her qualified staff are therefore to be credited with finally assembling a very difficult dossier.

Abstract
The publication of the first volume of the Sapientiale (Liber III. Cap. 1-20) is an excellent news for studies on history of medieval philosophy. In his Die Metaphysik des Thomas von York (1913) Martin Grabmann considered this “summa” of the Franciscan theologian Thomas Eborancensis as “the only major presentation of the metaphysical system from the early Scholasticism”. However, the critical edition of the work was expected by the scientific community for more than a century. Publishing affairs spanned the entire 20th century, involving many prominent scholars and prestigious research centers (pp. V-VII). Fiorella Retucci and her qualified staff are therefore to be credited with finally assembling a very difficult dossier.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
