Le tipologie residenziali esistenti in ambito nazionale offrono in generale prestazioni energetiche e livelli di comfort insufficienti. La riqualificazione prestazionale di tale patrimonio costituisce un obiettivo prioritario da supportare con strategie tecnologiche e normative adeguate. Energy performance and comfort levels of existing residential buildings are widely considered not sufficient and inefficient. Their performance improvement is a priority, to be supported by technology strategies and standards, according to national and European target for "Nearly zero energy buildings". This article presents the case study analysis of energy requalification of terraced houses attended by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Bologna at SAIE 2009. The object, referring to a specific case of energy saving, assessment and planning, underlines the importance of methodological reflection on the strategies to apply to this particular typology of building, wide spread in Italy. Possible scenarios are detailed: the first aims at improving the performance level of the residence operating within the existing available volume; the second provides the potential for an extension of this volume.
