Il Fiera District di Bologna. Potenzialità e criticità di un quartiere direzionale.

In the current scenario, cities are leading the transformation processes toward energy transition and environmental neutrality goals. A careful analysis of the potentials and criticalities that characterize, at the district scale, urban systems is therefore necessary. The article focuses on the analysis of a significant directional area in the city of Bologna: the Fiera District, designed in the late 1960s by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange. The project is characterized by the conceptual rethinking of two of the main elements that connote the historic settlement of the city of Bologna: the porticoes and towers, which are reinterpreted by Tange in a contemporary key with prefabricated systems in exposed white concrete, taking up the memory of the elements in the historic center. Today, in addition to its considerable potential, the Fiera District has a number of critical issues that hinder its full usability by citizens.
