The article aims to trace a link between the experiences of the popular school of the 1960s and 1970s, that of the 150-hour school, passing through the theories on lifelong learning, up to the establishment of the CPIA (Adult Education Centers), analyzing the economic, social and cultural dimensions of the construction of knowledge and the paths of political subjectification in adult education. The itinerary ends with the ethnographic account of an experience, the Scuola delle donne del Pilastro, in which today we reflect on the possibility of recovering the political and cultural value of popular schools.
