Jealousy is not a justification for killing someone, neither in the ancient Greece nor in the modern society: in the past, an adulterer could be murdered only after being caught red-handed, but now no murder is allowed. On the contrary, the comic zelotypia is an emotion strictly connected to violence as well as to suspicion and forgiveness. Menander’s Perikeiromene and Chariton’s Chaireas and Callirhoe (a Greek novel deeply influenced by drama) serve as good examples of it.

Abstract
Jealousy is not a justification for killing someone, neither in the ancient Greece nor in the modern society: in the past, an adulterer could be murdered only after being caught red-handed, but now no murder is allowed. On the contrary, the comic zelotypia is an emotion strictly connected to violence as well as to suspicion and forgiveness. Menander’s Perikeiromene and Chariton’s Chaireas and Callirhoe (a Greek novel deeply influenced by drama) serve as good examples of it.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
