This article points out strategies for designers to reduce the generation of pre- and post-consumer waste in the textile industry by focusing on the aspects of seamlessness, mono-materiality and mechanical recyclability. It further presents “Trouser prototype 1”, a proposal for a seamless, mono-material and fully recyclable garment that uses knit/weave hybrids and innovative fastening systems and that arose from an international and interdisciplinary design collaboration.
