The focus of the work is the comparison of two passages (from Nazarius and Ammianus Marcellinus) in which the same exemplum concerning the presentation of the infant in the cradle at a particular time (before a war; against a usurped power) appears. Despite the obvious chronological, historical and conceptual differences, one wonders why in relation to Constantine and his dynasty two sources in different times use the same exemplum. We also intend to proceed trying to understand whether there was a very particular ceremonial, that of the physical, visual presentation of the infant as dynastic and ritual legitimation.
