This essay examines Heidegger's concept of "care", with particular reference to his interpretation of the "Confessions" of Augustine in the early Freiburg lecture course of 1921. First, I show that Heidegger develops the concept of care by focusing on the Augustinian analysis of temptations, which essentially characterize christian life. Then, I discuss the way in which Heidegger identifies in care the fundamental determination of human existence. Finally, I point out that "having oneself", which for Heidegger indicates the enactment of factical life, entails a renunciation of oneself.

Abstract
This essay examines Heidegger's concept of "care", with particular reference to his interpretation of the "Confessions" of Augustine in the early Freiburg lecture course of 1921. First, I show that Heidegger develops the concept of care by focusing on the Augustinian analysis of temptations, which essentially characterize christian life. Then, I discuss the way in which Heidegger identifies in care the fundamental determination of human existence. Finally, I point out that "having oneself", which for Heidegger indicates the enactment of factical life, entails a renunciation of oneself.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
