Il “Library Tour” (1948) di Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan: la costruzione dell’io bibliotecario indiano attraverso un ‘tour of the West’

The paper analyzes the most consistent travel testimony transmitted by Ranganathan, that relating to his journey in Europe and America in 1948. Through the analysis of the editorial and content structure of the Library Tour, the following aspects will be illustrated: the type of experience or history conducted from the Indian librarian, the planning and conduct of this travel, the professional and scientific reflections that this allowed him, in particular on library science and librarianship, thus responding to the expectations of an Indian government eager to justify and consolidate the independence achieved also through the training sectors and information.

L’intervento analizza la testimonianza di viaggio più consistente trasmessa da Ranganathan, quella relativa al suo soggiorno in Europa e in America nel 1948. Attraverso l’analisi della struttura editoriale e di quella contenutistica del Library Tour si illustreranno: il tipo di esperienza odeporica condotta dal bibliotecario indiano, la programmazione e la conduzione di tale spostamento, le riflessioni professionali e scientifiche che questo gli consentì, in particolare sul piano bibliotecario rispondendo così alle attese di un governo indiano bramoso di giustificare e consolidare la raggiunta indipendenza anche attraverso i comparti della formazione e dell’informazione.
