The relationship between truth and deception in art seems to be highly controversial. The purpose of this essay is to see how the major authors of modern and contemporary thought have tried to define, on the one hand, the peculiar ways in which art participates in the nature of deception and, on the other hand, the ways in which, despite its fictions, it provides access to truth.
