Mutamenti degli spazi urbani e presenza straniera nella Torino post-industriale

In this article I discuss the contemporary condition of the city of Turin, linking the study of changes in urban spaces with the study of migration processes. Starting from a reflection on the concept of urban liminality, I link it to the debate on the multiscalar transformations in contemporary cities. Adopting the theoretical lens of mobility regimes and a spatial approach to the study of urban diversities and inequalities, I take into consideration a smaller territory, such as that of the Aurora district, and I analyse the biographies of some foreign inhabitants. Aurora has historically represented a crossroads of various mobilities and it has turned from one of the centres of the factory-town to one of the neighbourhoods where the signs of post-Fordist transformation are most visible. From the analysis of the biographies, which have various degrees of social and spatial (im)mobility, a complex picture emerges; differences are reflected in the relationships with urban spaces, in the processes of domestication and in the sense of rootedness, in participatory practices and ideas regarding the future development of the neighbourhood and the city.
