The aim of this paper is a review of the primary archaeological evidence that characterize Ravenna between the Exarchate and the end of the 10th century. This frame cross four sliding centuries, one of the most complex periods to analyze in terms of material culture such as it is the history of an invisible city, but one of the most important in the Medieval Europe.
