This contribution presents visual research conducted with local communities in remote areas of five European countries: the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Poland and Germany. By involving both long-term residents and newcomers, this study aimed at amplifying their voices while considering different backgrounds, nationalities, perspectives and life experiences, as well as building up a temporary local space of sociability. The visual research started with a simple question: what makes the place where you live welcoming and how would you capture this in an image?

Abstract

This contribution presents visual research conducted with local communities in remote areas of five European countries: the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Poland and Germany. By involving both long-term residents and newcomers, this study aimed at amplifying their voices while considering different backgrounds, nationalities, perspectives and life experiences, as well as building up a temporary local space of sociability. The visual research started with a simple question: what makes the place where you live welcoming and how would you capture this in an image?
