The described application involves the use of external drift method to calibrate radar raingauges when estimating rainfall fields. The estimates of rainfall fields for times of half-hour or one-hour intervals and with a high spatial resolution are needed as on-line inputs for hydrological simulations aimed at predicting flood flows. Cross-validation results indicate that precision can be improved by integrating the data from radar raingauges with those from ground gauges, but that the improvement occurs only when there is a high correlation between the two sets of data. Estimating quality is equal to that provided by cokriging, with the difference that the latter method is too laborious for on-line applications.

Abstract
The described application involves the use of external drift method to calibrate radar raingauges when estimating rainfall fields. The estimates of rainfall fields for times of half-hour or one-hour intervals and with a high spatial resolution are needed as on-line inputs for hydrological simulations aimed at predicting flood flows. Cross-validation results indicate that precision can be improved by integrating the data from radar raingauges with those from ground gauges, but that the improvement occurs only when there is a high correlation between the two sets of data. Estimating quality is equal to that provided by cokriging, with the difference that the latter method is too laborious for on-line applications.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
