The Gentile reform was discussed several times among Russian philosophers and intellectuals during the 1920s and 1930s and two main trends can be identified. The first one is the comparative approach adopted by the Russian emigration journal «The Russian school abroad» («Russkaja škola za rubežom»), which published two extensive essays on the Gentile reform in 1924 and 1926. One of the promoters of this journal was the famous philosopher Sergej Hessen (1887-1950), who debated Gentile’s pedagogical idea even later, in the German journal «Education» («Die Erziehung»), in 1931 and in 1934. The second trend was developed by the Soviet philosophy journal «Under the banner of Marxism» («Pod znamenem marksisma»), which in 1931 published the debate between two major Marxist philosophers of the time, Boris S. Černyšev (1896 -1944) and Bernard E. Bykovskij (1901-1980), who mainly dealt with the political and ideological aspects of Gentile’s philosophical theory.

La riforma Gentile fu discussa a più riprese fra filosofi e intellettuali russi nel corso degli anni Venti e Trenta e si possono individuare due tendenze principali. La prima è quella dell’approccio comparativo adottato dalla rivista dell’emigrazione russa «La scuola russa all’estero» («Russkaja škola za rubežom»); nel 1924 e del 1926 pubblicò due ampi saggi sulla riforma Gentile. Fra i promotori di questa rivista vi fu il celebre filosofo Sergej Hessen (1887-1950), che trattò della concezione pedagogica di Gentile anche successivamente, sulla rivista tedesca «L’educazione» («Die Erziehung»), nel 1931 e nel 1934. La seconda tendenza è quella della rivista di filosofia sovietica «Sotto la bandiera del marxismo» («Pod znamenem marksisma»), che nel corso del 1931 pubblicò il dibattito fra due maggiori filosofi marxisti del tempo: Boris S. Černyšev (1896-1944) e Bernard E. Bykovskij (1901-1980), che discussero soprattutto degli aspetti politici e ideologici della concezione del filosofo Gentile.
