Studies on Chinese Language and Linguistics in Italy

The history of Chinese studies in Italy, as is well known, is rooted in linguistic studies, a foundational domain of Italian sinology since the time of the early missionary works on Sinitic languages. Centuries after the contributions of the pioneers of Chinese linguistics, scientific studies on Sinitic languages in Italian academic institutions have experienced an unprecedented rise. In addition to research orientations focused on the most central themes of the language sciences, we have witnessed a widespread diffusion of the theoretical assumptions and methods of investigation proper to linguistics (theoretical, acquisitional, typological, etc.) in related disciplines, such as language teaching, translation studies, or critical-literary analysis. For these reasons, the contributions in this book range from theoretical to applied Chinese linguistics, presenting original research, methodological aspects, and results obtained in applied research, as well as the presentation of the state of the art related to specific topics and fields.
