The Gulf of Orosei (Central-East Sardinia) is the most important coastal karst area of Italy, developing for more than 37 km with limestone cliffs falling into the sea. The typical karstic wilderness landscape, together with the cultural (archaeology, traditional shepherd activities) and naturalistic values, are widely used for touristic purposes. Despite this human pressure, the only tourist settlements are located at the North and South ends of the Gulf, in Cala Gonone (Dorgali) and Santa Maria Navarrese (Baunei) respectively. Tourism activities (e.g. restaurants, hotels, harbours) are concentrated especially in these villages and from here excursions depart by sea and by land. In spite of this territory is a perfect place where lead environment education, relatively little has been done in this direction. Instead scientific researches have not neglect this area and geological, geomorphological, speleological, vegetational, faunistic, archaeological research projects have been led in the past. The aim of this work is to present some of these studies carry out in the last decades (e.g. hydrogeology, palaeontology, speleogenesis, paleoclimatic reconstruction). Such knowledge, often published on international journals, could be revealed to the many visitors by events or temporary installations, particularly in these natural sites suitable for that purpose. Among the most visited natural monuments there are two show caves open to public, the Bue Marino (Dorgali) and Fico (Baunei) caves. These two natural caves, thanks to their great scenographic value, can help in advertising the great scientific importance of this coast, and especially in explaining the karst environment.
