Farmacopolitica del soggetto

It is now known that antidepressant research and its standardization have been strongly influenced by economic interests. Less evident is how under such pressures the clinical gaze has shaped somatic identities perfectly predisposed to this form of consumption: subjectivity, that is, ready to think of themself as assemblies of more or less efficient biochemical processes. Thanks to the medical legitimacy of this bio-mechanical life form, rooted in gross balances of monoamines and reuptakers, pharmacologization carries forward the biopolitical project of privatizing psychic discomfort, placing both the origin and the solution of suffering within the "chemically malfunctioning" subject. The exponential growth of the use of psychoactive drugs, therefore, indicates not only the presence of a vulnerability, but also the scientific standardization of a desocialized and depoliticized cure, which can only go hand in hand with the progressive transformation of the sufferer into a subject of consumption.
