PURPOSE This procedure gives instructions for the immunological characterization of CD34pos cells. POLICY Specific subsets of CD34pos cells have been shown capable of engrafting both animals and human subjects. However, the total number of CD34+ cells per kilogram body weight is considered the most relevant parameter in clinical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This protocol, therefore, is meant for research purposes. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE and INTERPRETATION The CD34pos CD90pos subset has been shown to contain cells necessary to engraft human subjects (7). The CD34pos CD133pos subpopulation of CD34pos cells identifies early stem and progenitor cells while excluding most pre B cells and some committed myeloid progenitors
