In this paper we presents some elements of the first implementation of a 3D models reality-based system over the Pompeii Information System developed by SNS- Scuola Normale of Pisa. Our application is now part of the Pompeii Information System, carried out by SNS with the University of Bologna, the Special Superintendence for Archaeological heritage of Naples and Pompeii (SSBANP). Particularly we describe the digital framework to record, organize, present, and visually navigate 3D archaeological models to be used inside a 3D GIS to enhance the knowledge of an archaeological site within the frame of its historical evolution and its institutional management.
