La circolazione monetaria in Romagna nel basso Medioevo: i reperti numismatici dallo scavo del castello di Zagonara

In this article, after the analysis of the coins found in the excavation of the castle of Zagonara (Lugo, Ravenna), we will try to reconstruct the history of the site in the economic-historical context of central-northern Italy during the High and Late Middle Ages (11th-15th century). An attempt was also made to reconstruct the circulation of coins in the site and in the medieval Romagna. After a period of circulation of Venetian currency (11th century) and of the deniers of Lucca (late 12th – early 13th century), Zagonara was included into the monetary circulation area of Bologna, using the "Bolognino" as its main currency, even if, in the written documentation, the Denarii of Ravenna and Ancona are the most frequently attested.
