We consider bounded, simply connected domains in the complex plane with Lipschitz or chord-arc boundary and we show that the range of the Cauchy transform operator for such domains can be represented in terms of the classical Hardy spaces. This repre- sentation is motivated by several applications to the theory of partial differential equations.
