The main topic of this paper is the combination of two different technologies, i.e. the technology of tubular permanent magnet (PM) actuators, and the technology of multiphase drives. An electric drive consisting of two five-phase PM tubular actuators fed by a single five-phase inverter is described. The control scheme of the drive for position control is presented and the performance of the drive is evaluated by experimental results.

Abstract
