This brief contribution outlines the objectives and methodology of the ANIMATE project, how it aims to enhance our understanding of Italian visual culture in the context of global connectivity and to acquire new methodological tools in the critical evaluation of aesthetic practices from the point of view of ecology. It explains how ANIMATE builds on my previous experience as a research associate with the project Making Worlds: Art, Materiality, and Early Modern Globalization, based at McGill University, which examined issues raised by the global turn in art history and the humanities. ANIMATE has received funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 101025547.

It explains how ANIMATE builds on my previous experience as a research associate with the project Making Worlds: Art, Materiality, and Early Modern Globalization, based at McGill University, which examined issues raised by the global turn in art history and the humanities.
