This contribution presents the experience of three EU-funded projects in which the University of Bologna has been involved, each addressing the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe from a different perspective. It discusses the competences and skills required to manage transnational cultural routes, the multi-scale governance challenges arising from their cross-border nature, and the importance of monitoring the impacts these routes generate in the territories they traverse.
