The arene-alkyne clusters Ru6C(CO)(12)(eta(6)-C6H6)(mu(3)-C2Me2) 1, Ru6C(CO)(12)(eta(6)-C6H5Me)(mu(3)-C2Me2) 2, Ru6C(CO)(12)(eta(6)-C6H4Me2-1,3)-(mu(3)-C2Me2) 3, Ru6C(CO)(12)(eta(6)-C6H3Me3-1,3,5)(mu(3)-C2Me2). CH2Cl2 4 and Ru6C(CO)(12)(mu(3)-C16H16)(mu(3)-C2Me2). C6H5Me 5 have been prepared and characterised. The molecular structures of 1, 3, 4 and 5 have been established in the solid state by single crystal X-ray diffraction, and their crystallographic packing motifs analysed.
