Anhedonia, a term proposed by Ribot in 1896, is inability to feel pleasure in situations or activities that are considered pleasurable by most people. In this review, the authors, examining in detail the psychopathology and the neurobiological correlates of pleasure, suggest that hedonic inability is only one of the possible pleasure disorders and that it constitutes a problematic psychological condition, which is hard to interpret, due to its nosologic transversality.
