On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the Pier Paolo Pasolini’s(1922-1975) birth, which took place in Bologna on March 5, 1922, many volumes have been published. Pasolini thus confirms himself as one of the most studied Italian authors of the last century. The author of this article has selected four books that investigate specific aspects of Pasolini’s life and work: in particular, the relationship of the young Pasolini with the city of Bologna (where he graduated from classical high school and obtained his degree in Literature) and with Friuli; the Roman years and friendships with the writers living in the capital (including Alberto Moravia, Elsa Morante, Dacia Maraini, Renzo Paris); Pasolini’s tendency to become a character, both in the reception of his work and as a consequence of his personal attitude to self-promotion.
