Despite several admonishments issued by the Italian Constitutional Court and a condemn against Italy enacted by the European Court of Human Rights, the Parliament keeps remaining inert in relation to the legal framework on the surname attribution, which is deemed in contrast with several fundamental principles (first of all, equality between parents). Carla Bassu offers in her book a comprehensive overview both from a historical as well as a comparative perspective over the international, supranational, and domestic legal frameworks on the surname attribution. Eventually, the Author suggests a concrete model of reference, which might be adopted to reconcile the different and often contrasting constitutional principles and values at stake.
