The UN 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development is about to turn one-year-old. The 17 goals agreed upon by the world leaders require an unprecedented degree of cooperation among States, as well as an active participation of the private sector. Through an overview of the core features of the Agenda and its added value, this article seeks to address the thorny issues of implementation and accountability, against the backdrop of the challenges posed by new players of international law. It is argued that, in order for such a policy instrument to be effective, the chasm with the human rights framework needs to be bridged, as the operationalization of the sustainable development goals in their policy dimension cannot take place in isolation from the international law obligations relevant to them.

Abstract
The UN 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development is about to turn one-year-old. The 17 goals agreed upon by the world leaders require an unprecedented degree of cooperation among States, as well as an active participation of the private sector. Through an overview of the core features of the Agenda and its added value, this article seeks to address the thorny issues of implementation and accountability, against the backdrop of the challenges posed by new players of international law. It is argued that, in order for such a policy instrument to be effective, the chasm with the human rights framework needs to be bridged, as the operationalization of the sustainable development goals in their policy dimension cannot take place in isolation from the international law obligations relevant to them.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
