Abstract
The introduction of free verse 1947 revolutionized the Arabic poetry and the metrical rules of versification referring to the system elaborated by al-Khalil (d. 791). In the new poetic compositions, the metrical basic is on the uniformity of the taf’ilah and not divided the verse into two segments of the same length that highlight the finale rhyme and contains a specific number of feet “musical units” in each line. The success of the free verse encouraged many young poets to compose poems by applying the new techniques on their works. One of two Iraqi poets who claimed to have been the first to write poetry following this new method was Al-Sayyab. A poetic text, Hymn of the Rain, by this author recited in Arabic, English, Persian and Turkish was chosen to open the plenary session of the 12th ICAANE.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
