This paper aims at being the first contribution written by members of the recently established DEIS Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation for Transportation Electrification Technical Committee. Transport electrification is a key enabler toward a more efficient use of energy. When it comes to dielectrics, transport electrification is a vast subject, as the thermal, electrical, ambient, and mechanical stresses in addition to the voltages (types and levels) and power ratings vary considerably across the different sorts of transport systems. Accordingly, diverse insulation systems and operating conditions need to be accounted for. This article will not propose solutions. On the contrary, it will highlight the challenges ahead in aircraft electrification, with the aim of stimulating researchers from academia and industry to contribute to this complex and fascinating topic.

Abstract
This paper aims at being the first contribution written by members of the recently established DEIS Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation for Transportation Electrification Technical Committee. Transport electrification is a key enabler toward a more efficient use of energy. When it comes to dielectrics, transport electrification is a vast subject, as the thermal, electrical, ambient, and mechanical stresses in addition to the voltages (types and levels) and power ratings vary considerably across the different sorts of transport systems. Accordingly, diverse insulation systems and operating conditions need to be accounted for. This article will not propose solutions. On the contrary, it will highlight the challenges ahead in aircraft electrification, with the aim of stimulating researchers from academia and industry to contribute to this complex and fascinating topic.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
