A method for the analysis and prediction of the noise generated by belt drives which consists of two distinct phases is presented. A two-pulley belt drive was considered and the results were validated at the meshing frequency. Results obtained in the two phases were compared in order to evaluate the relation between the vibratory behavior and the total acoustic radiation determined experimentally. The experimental and numerical data agree fairly well, adding information on the noise generation mechanisms and showing the feasibility of modelling the vibro-acoustic behavior of belt drives and the possibility of a totally numerical procedure.
