Abstract: This work is part of a broader research on the meaning acquired by the mention of simulacra, such as statues, automatons, mannequins, dolls, in Emilia Pardo Bazan’s narrative. On this occasion, the role of dolls in Doña Milagros and La Pepona is especially analysed. In the first, it serves to question the importance of motherhood for the identity of the protagonist; in the second, to criticize the dynamics of the bourgeois family.
