Both Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can result in gastritis and ulcers. Hp has been identified as a major etiologic factor in the development of peptic ulcer disease; however, its relationship to NSAID-associated toxicity is less well characterized. Recent studies have suggested that elimination of Hp before NSAID treatment decreases ulcer occurrence. At this time eradication of Hp should be recommended in patients receiving chronic NSAID therapy.

Abstract
Both Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can result in gastritis and ulcers. Hp has been identified as a major etiologic factor in the development of peptic ulcer disease; however, its relationship to NSAID-associated toxicity is less well characterized. Recent studies have suggested that elimination of Hp before NSAID treatment decreases ulcer occurrence. At this time eradication of Hp should be recommended in patients receiving chronic NSAID therapy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
