During the early years of the Cold War, the construction of the dialectics of the two opposing fronts included the building of a system of rules governing East-West economic relations. While a general reshaping of world economy was finding its way in the construction of super-national institutions such as IMF, Bretton Woods agreement, and GATT, on the other hand, the post-WWII worldwide crisis gave the United States the opportunity to establish a system which they could control and which could guarantee a good balance for their economic system. The Truman doctrine and the Marshall Plan (European Reconstruction Plan, ERP) were the fundamental tools to carry out a victorious struggle against the Soviet menace and to establish the predominance of the Free World, as embodied in the American model of civilization. Abstract
As far as world trade was concerned, the US applied a strategy of economic containment aimed at further dividing the world into NATO and Warsaw Pact members.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
