Radiocarbon time scale calibration is based on dated absolute chronologies. River bank incision in the Barbiers River (Moyenne Durance, Southern French Alps) reveals numerous lateglacial subfossil Scots pines. Trunks are dated at the end of the Allcröd and the beginning of Younger Dryas. Dendrochronological analyses allow building two floating mean chronologies (BARNA and BARBB). Using wiggle matching method, these chronologies fill the gap between absolute European chronology (with end at 12594 cal. BP, Schaub, 2008a; Hua et al, 2009) and the long Swiss floating chronology (Kaiser et al., 2010). Thereby, a continuous radiocarbon timeframe is available until 14300 cal. BP. Unfortunately, French and Swiss chronologies are not cross-dated.
