A rhabdovirus was found in some dwarfed plants of croton (Codiaeum variegatum) cv. Fred Sander. The plants showed malformations and yellow or pink veins. Bullet‐shaped particles (70–80 × 180–240 nm) were observed in leaf‐dip preparations and in ultrathin sections of diseased leaf tissue examined by electron microscopy. This rhabdovirus was mechanically transmitted by sap inoculation to Nicotiana glutinosa and Chenopodiun amaranticolor, and by leaf grafting to healthy croton plants in which it induced vein yellowing and dwarfing. Abstract
