The nature of the scattering interactions in the x‐ray energy regime makes the effect of polarization extremely important, mainly when the incident beam is partially or totally polarized. The effects of the source polarization on the x‐ray spectrum are analysed, stressing the points of interest in each case of unpolarized, linearly polarized and circularly polarized excitation. Abstract
